IMF Climbathon at Bara Shigri Glacier(Himachal Pradesh):
1 An important event organized this year was the CLIMBATHON, which was run as an Alpine Mountaineering leadership programme. The details are as follows

Duration : August-September
Total members : 76 (including 05 Foreign participants and
03 Foreign Instructors, one instructor each from NIM, HMI, DMAS, SGMI, IHCAET, ITBP; One Doctor, Two pharmacists , one equipment incharge and One Wireless Operator)
Alpine Training conducted at Concordia, Bara Shigri Glacier in H.P. during August –September 2014.

UIAA also sent its representative Mr Ian Wall for assessing the training and recommend steps for obtaining UIAA Training standards accreditation. The UIAA rep joined the training programme and interacted with the instructors and participants and appreciated the programme.
IMF Sponsored Expedition:
2 This year IMF launched 03 Mountaineering Expeditions & 01 Reccee Expedition to the following peaks:-
2.1 Mt Menthosa (6443 M) : An all Women expedition led by Ms Tine Mena from Arunachal Pradesh with 10 participants from all over the country was flagged off on 30th June 2014 at IMF. The expedition was successful with seven members of the team summitting the peak on 11 July 2014. Hon’ble Minister for State of Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju was Chief Guest for Flag In Ceremony on 20 July, 2014 at IMF Complex.
2.2 Mt Latu Dhura (6392 M): The expedition was led by Shri Dhruv Joshi with 09 participants from all over the country. The duration of expedition was from 25 May to 25 June 2014. The team was flagged off on 28th of May 2014. The team climbed upto 5850 M. However, they had to abandon the summit attempt due to rock fall and unstable ice conditions enroute . The team also carried out a reccee to explore alternative route to Nanda Devi East and has identified a possible route .
2.3 Mount Kangto Reccee: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma flagged off the Reconnaissance Expedition to Mount Kangto from Raj Bhawan on 29 September, 2014, organized by IMF in collaboration with National Institute of Mountaineering & Allied Sports (NMAS), Dirang and Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh. It was a twenty-day expedition led by Mr Amit Chowdhury with a team of 09 members. The expedition could not reach Kangto base camp area due to thick vegetation and inaccessibility of terrain. However, after identifying possible routes for future exploration, the team returned on 12 Oct 14.
Bouldering Competition cum Expedition to Stok Kangri (Kanglacha) in Leh (J&K):
2.4 The Expedition led by Shri Sonam Wangyal, Everest Hero, comprising of 20 students(13 boys and 07 girls) from different schools of Leh Region, was flagged off by Shri Thupstan Tsewang, M.P. of Ladakh. After Bouldering for 3 days at Shey Smanla Rock, the team departed for Stok Kangri on 07 Sept 2014 . 19 students successfully scaled Stok Kangri on 15 September, 2014.
Cleaning Expeditions:
2.5 Two cleaning expeditions were held in Kunzum La and Rohtang Pass areas as part of CLIMBATHON -2014. Shri Sonam Wangyal also conducted the Cleaning of Stok Kangri during Bouldering & Mountaineering Expedition in September, 2014
